About Us
Introduction
Seva Vasati – Integrated Development of Slums, formerly known as Jaagarana, was initiated in 1989 with the vision of uplifting slum communities and integrating them into the mainstream. The initiative focuses on individual transformation as a pathway to social transformation, emphasizing education, health, self-reliance, and life skills. Today, Seva Vasati operates in over 200 slums across Bengaluru, promoting civic awareness and human values through sustained developmental activities.
Rashtrotthana started its service activities with the aim to make available a life of dignity to all human beings by ensuring that all the basic and necessary facilities reach each and every person of the society. In a broad view, the development of the country should also mean the welfare of the lowest sections of the society. Our concern is not only for people and society but also for the world of all living beings of the plant and animal world.
Historical Background
1995
Rashtrotthana Parishat launched its humanitarian initiatives in Bengaluru's slums.
Non-formal education facilities for out-of-school children were developed as part of the Jaagarana Project. A curriculum was devised to make it easier to teach Kannada and mathematical concepts through activities. Over 5,000 children in over 200 slums were taught reading, writing, and maths in Kannada via non-formal education facilities.
2005
Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, more than 4,000 children were enrolled in formal schools
To ensure that these kids wouldn't drop out again and to help them succeed in formal education, After-School Learning Centres were set up.
2019
Jaagarana Project
Jaagarana Project was integrated into Rashtrotthana Trust to strengthen its management and streamline its administration for greater impact.
